About Me

My name is Anna Pavlova and I am currently a 20 year old student at the University of Sunderland studying Journalism. I am in my final year and working towards my dream career to be a journalist. I am originally from Latvia and moved to the UK when I was 5, I have the ability to speak Russian fluently and English with absolute confidence.

My passions include writing specifically local news and hard news. I always take the chance to raise awareness or speak about any charities or events that deserve to be in the media and recognised. I have also always had such interest in broadcast journalism going from radio to TV.

The experience I have is writing for a news website which means I can meet deadlines and have ideas and pitch them. I am also currently a presenter for Spark Radio which is a local radio based at the University of Sunderland.

The work I have done previously can be found down below.

How far have women's rights come in the UK?

“The priority has to be to end male violence. It’s the one thing that unites women and girls everywhere on the planet”. This is the view of a journalist, Julie Bindel. Her main focus, when it comes to women’s rights, is to end human trafficking, sexual exploitation of women and children and to voice the concern for women and children who are exploited through surrogacy pregnancy contracts.

Julie grew up in Darlington in a working-class community where there were no prospects for women and very

What is Feminism?

When you search the term feminism on the internet it comes up with the definition: “Feminism is a range of socio-political movements and ideologies that aim to define and establish the political, economic, personal and social equality of the sexes”. However, over the years myths have arisen and made people think otherwise.

The main myths that come up when you search feminism are “feminism is to make women the dominant gender”, “feminism ignores men’s issues” and “feminism is simply sexism again

Have women ever been denied their rights because of their sexual orientation or gender identity?

“Trans-people are to be treated with dignity and respect in all aspects of their life from family, friends and wider non-trans community including businesses”. These are the words of Jane Hamlin, President of the Beaumont Society, who has been a member for the last 23 years.

Jane opened up and said she has heard of people from the community who have been harassed, insulted and purposely misgendered or referred to their previous names by people who should know better. For Jane “this is incredibl

The Sarah Everard Case

Sarah Everard. A woman was walking home from her friend’s house when a police officer approached her and arrested her for breaching COVID-19 rules. The impact of violence and harassment against women

“I had this horrible experience where it wasn’t public, it was private in someone’s room and something happened. It was pretty bad and I remember calling my mum and she said it's just what boys do and I remember at the time I had friends who were guys and I remember telling him and he reacted so weirdly”. A victim of sexual harassment revealed their experience in opening up to those they trusted most but did not get the support she wanted. It led to her not being heard and feeling invalidated.
